CENTRAL PORT FUEL INJECTORS
THE "SPIDERS"
GM began using central port injection (CPI) or "central port fuel injection" (CPFI) in the early '90s. The system uses a series of tubes with poppet valves and central injector to spray fuel at each intake port. This is as opposed to a central throttle-body system. From '92 - '95 the CPI or CPFI was used and all cylinders were batch fired. In '96 GM switched to CSFI, a similar system except that instead of batch firing all ports it fires the ports sequentially.

When replacing your spider injector unit it is always smart to replace the parts included in the GM CPI Nut Kit.
The plastic fuel lines can become brittle and often crack and begin leaking when the CPI unit is replaced because of the lines being moved during installation.
